BioMarine Technologies was incorporated on October 3, 1989 to develop a fully-integrated commercial seafood business using established aquaculture techniques, or the use and manipulation of the world’s oceans to eventually produce USDA “organic” fish and other aquatic animals for human consumption, such as offshore fish hatcheries and large, open-ocean sea cages. Our stated business objectives include:
- Produce “ organically ” grown seafood which are free from contaminants, growth hormones and antibiotics, in a natural marine salt water environment, within a highly controlled, man-made offshore facility located in the Gulf of Mexico. Our final intent is to commercially produce and sell USDA certified “Grown with Organic Ingredients” seafood within US domestic and foreign markets;
- Obtaining finfish from foreign marine “organic” fish farming companies and processing them in U.S. based plant(s) for commercial sale in domestic and foreign markets;
- Developing a fully integrated commercial seafood business involving the production, processing, distribution, marketing and sale of various fish products; and
- Producing fish feed, fingerlings and equipment for use in the Gulf of Mexico aquaculture industry.
To date, our activities have focused on researching and developing aquaculture technology, identifying fish stock candidates, applying for the requisite operational sites and permits, and pursuing collaborative and other strategic relationships for the commercialization of our proposed business operations. Over the last five years, we have had successfully grow out experiences with both Cobia and Redfish, two of our anticipated finfish candidates.
At present, we have a contract with Gulf Marine Institute of Technology (GMIT), an affiliated nonprofit research institute, to jointly develop a four platform offshore complex located in the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of Texas and, under requisite government permits, to refurbish and use such platform complex for commercial aquaculture production. We also have rights in permits for similar operations with acreage off the coast of the Florida / Alabama state line, located 9.9 miles offshore in federal waters.
